Helical gears are manufactured using two primary processes: hobbing and profile grinding. At Carnes-Miller Gear, the hobbing process is used to produce high-quality helical gears up to 8 inches (200mm) in diameter, while advanced profile grinding handles gears up to 400mm in diameter. The process also includes specialized techniques such as crown hobbing, taper hobbing, and profile modifications like lead correction, profile adjustments, and tip relief. For demanding applications, gears undergo heat treatment to achieve tighter AGMA Class 13 precision ratings.
