Worm gears and worm wheels are manufactured using precision hobbing processes, with worms produced from carburized, hardened, and ground steel for maximum wear resistance.

Worm wheels are typically manufactured from CDA 954 aluminum bronze or CDA 932 bronze, with steel available as an option for specific applications. Mating worms are made from carburizing-grade steel, then carburized, hardened, and ground to ensure durability and precise meshing in high-torque linear operator systems.

Yes. Carnes-Miller Gear offers reverse engineering services for both helical gears and worm gears when original OEM drawings or specifications are unavailable. By analyzing a provided sample, our team defines all critical data and tolerances to manufacture a precise replacement, minimizing downtime for your equipment.

Carnes-Miller Gear can manufacture helical gears with helix angles up to +/- 45 degrees. This broad range accommodates crown hobbing and taper hobbing configurations, enabling smooth, quiet power transmission with reduced axial thrust in linear operator drives and industrial machinery across diverse sectors.

Precision grinding is available separately for gears requiring AGMA Class 13 surface finish and tolerance levels.
